Please contact the elected officials listed below and encourage them to take all steps necessary to protect the Rocky River. For your convenience, a model letter is provided.

Dear ____________, I am writing to encourage you to do all you can to protect the Rocky River. It is especially important that your office support efforts to improve water quality in the river (see Discover the Rocky River at www.rockyriver.org). These efforts include (1) having the N.C. Environmental Management Commission designate the river as "nutrient sensitive", (2) upgrading the Siler City Wastewater Treatment Plant so it will do a better job of removing nitrogen and phosphorus from its discharges, (3) acquiring conservation easements or fee simple title to the eight Natural Heritage sites in the watershed, (4) improving local zoning, sedimentation control and stream buffer ordinances and (5) better enforcement of existing land use and sedimentation control ordinances.
